PILATES / GYROKINESIS INSTRUCTORS JO BROOKS Director of the Pilates and Gyrotonics at The Moving Arts Center at Sierra Fitness My Pilates Philosophy is simple...Work smart, not frantic! In a day when we have little time to spend on our health, it is important to spend our time wisely. As a former Dancer/Performer, I used Pilates first for rehabilitation after an injury and then for maintaining my strength and endurance. Utilizing the techniques designed by Joseph Pilates, I studied the Romana style and am certified among others by The Pilates Coach. We can work to condition a de-conditioned body, rehabilitate a healing body or fine tune the athletic body. I love what I do! I believe in making fitness fun. That's the most important ingredient in my training. I want my clients to keep coming back for more! The mind, body and spirit need to be exercised for complete wellness. I am certified by the Long Beach Dance Academy. Pilates is phenomenal for all levels of fitness. It may be the cross training for an elite athlete, the secondary rehabilitation for an injury, or a great workout for someone who wants a longer stronger body. I have experience with special needs including osteoporosis, scoliosis, posture correction, back pain, anklosing spondylitis, Parkinson Disease and pre and post natal conditioning. I am a Level 2 Certified and teacher facilitator through master teacher Ron Fletcher. I have a B.F.A. in Dance and am a Certified Yamuna Body Rolling practitioner. Pilates is a journey, not a destination. It is a thoughtful movement and mindful conditioning - a holistic approach to functional fitness and health which can be done throughout one's life. I am certified in mat and machines, did training with Long Beach Dance Academy and have a Yamuna Body Rolling Level 2 Certification. A skilled innovator, is the expert in the field of Plus Size Pilates. She exhibits an elite level of fitness and health, and possesses an excellent understanding of the physical body, and enjoys excellent communication with her students and colleagues. Gordon found herself in a perfect position to assist her personal trainer clients 30-40 pounds overweight to over 400 pounds to develope their core strength by developing the Plus Size Pilates mat workout. Together they discovered the key elements of the Pilates moves making it possible for round shaped bodies to effectively change their figures from deep within, at the core. Mary currently teaches Plus Size Pilates Workout at studios, fitness clubs, in conference rooms, and in private homes for induviduals and groups in Tucson, Arizona.
